Brilliant business spaces
Burrington Estates has announced the purchase of two acres of land at SkyPark, the South West’s most significant business park development, for the delivery of 35 new, high quality light industrial units.
The award-winning developers decision to proceed with SkyPark came after a surge in enquires for commercial space during the COVID-19 pandemic, indicating confidence in the light industrial market.
Councillor Sara Randall Johnson, Devon County Councillor for Broadclyst, said: “This is a vote of confidence in our local economy and it is extremely encouraging to see Burrington Estates demonstrating its commitment to economic recovery in the county. There is a lack of small units in Devon so this development will help meet that demand and provide businesses, both existing and start-ups, with the opportunity to grow and bounce back from the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.”
The freehold units will provide between 1,000 sqft and 1,200 sqft of space with the option of half or full-mezzanine floor.
Burrington Estates’ newly appointed Commercial Managing Director, Matthew Bennett, says: “We have been encouraged by the number of enquiries received about this type of unit – it is indicative of the light industrial market bouncing back after lockdown.”
In keeping with Skypark’s ongoing sustainable aims, the development will include solar PV and EV charging points, covered bicycle storage and insulated panel technology, with the build meeting the BREEAM ‘Excellent’ benchmark.
Ian Guy, Devon County Councils Strategic Development and Infrastructure Manager, said: “We are delighted to work with Burrington Estates to enable them to develop a small unit industrial scheme which will provide the smaller units that have proven to be in such high demand.”
Units are due to be completed in November and on sale from December, providing a timely opportunity for businesses ready to push ahead into 2021. They are ideal for a range of businesses, providing flexible layouts for occupants. As SkyPark is part of the Exeter & East Devon Enterprise Zone, business rate relief is available for new and growing businesses, worth up to £55,000 per business year for five years.
Paul Scantlebury, Director of Burrington Estates, comments: “We are committed to the development of smaller, feature-rich commercial units in prime locations like SkyPark, providing convenience and quality to small businesses and sole traders looking to take their next step.”
